Today, Twitter will begin testing its link wrapping function that will automatically reduce the 20 characters long or more all URLs in t. co shell links. This test will affect a certain percentage of tweets publicly posted via the service, or sent via direct message.
Tests are "Canaries in the mine," says Twitter-means trying to find any issues with the new system of URL shortening before the Monday, August 15 launch.
In particular, Twitter hopes to determine if there are any problems with the user that will arise from the system, after working in the scale.
This means that you can start to see references shortened to start with "t co", appearing on Twitter during the week. And you can see the Insert link in the tweet automatically shortened for you to use the new URL wrapping function if the connection corresponds to the desired length.
Twitter is preparing to launch the system starting in June 2010. He said that the system will help the company understand how users interact with tens of millions of links shared on Twitter on a daily basis. It will also help protect users from malicious links and fraud, as the links will be reviewed before posting.
Note that this differs from the automatic connection, reducing feature which was introduced in June. It's just a truncated links for you ". It actually would wrap links, using the prefix "t co".
